Our History

Summer of 2003

The Start

Open Gate first ran in 2003 out of a vision to see young people gain a passion for community service/evangelism. Observing the impact it had on the first students, the board decided to make Open gate an annual program in the city of Reading.

Goals Preserved

Some of the goals for Open Gate were to train young people in Urban Ministry, giving practical teaching and hands on experience that could be repeated in their home areas so Urban ministry could expand outward from the communities of young people whom attended Open Gate.

It also served as a place where young people could be exposed to what was happening in Reading and maybe partner in this area as well.

Today

Open Gate holds fast to the original vision and strives to better the program by the grace and power of God. It’s not about Open Gate…it’s about God and all those who truly want to worship and serve Him!
